Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I have a 13W corded trouble light and actually use the dewalt more now that I own it.Having used it quite a bit, here are the observations:
1 - hook and shield can be adjusted any way to keep the light on the job and out of your eyes almost anywhere. It sits upright on the battery if you can't hang it.
2 - there is no shortage of light - and it is very wide angle (about 190 degrees) - no central hot spot with this light - its spread out
3 - although this is called a 12/14.4V light, its best used with 14.4 V packs - lamp shuts down at about 12.3 volts remaining on the pack.Using a new XRP pack, that amounts to 3.5 hours of light.Using a tired, 6 yr. old pack, it's more like 2.2 hours.
4 - The light is available in 12-14.4 and 18v models which covers all the serious tool battery systems dewalt has made (the 14.4 and 18v) - the bulb however is only 13W so the 18V lamp isn't any brighter - it just runs longer on a charge.Select whichever voltage your tools use (mine are older 14.4V tools so I have lots of batteries and picked this model)
5 - construction quality is excellent and adhere's to dewalt's standards.
6 - finally - if for some reason you want 360 degrees of lighting, the reflector / protector can be removed with the bulb on - but it is very bright, you won't have the hook to hang it, and you will probably break the bulb if it falls over, so it is not recommended.DW even puts a sticker inside telling you to turn it off now!The protector is well designed to hold on to the top of the bulb to minimize the chace of breakage in drops.
Even though I've used the 14.4 volt system for years, I never bought a dewalt light until this one - their flexible design wasn't right - the swivel head handheld design still wasn't right - but this tool puts out so much light it's perfect for almost any job.The third design is the best of the bunch and worth it if you have batteries and chargers already since nothing comes with the lamp.
Enjoy!
